What to Expect
Saying goodbye to a beloved pet is never easy, and many families have questions about what will happen.
Below are answers to some of the most common questions about putting your pet to sleep:
-
If you are unsure whether the time is right, you are welcome to contact me with any questions. Together we can talk about your pet’s quality of life and decide if euthanasia is the best option with no obligation to proceed. I aim to answer all inquiries within 24 hours
-
I am only able to accept pre-planned bookings. If you are concerned your pet needs urgent attention please contact your regular vet
-
Once you feel ready, please get in touch by email or through the contact form on my website and we will arrange a suitable time for me to visit your home.
I can also help guide you through the practical arrangements afterwards.

This is a very personal decision which you can make without fear of judgement. Some people may choose to leave once their pet is peacefully asleep under sedation, some people want to be present the entire time and some people know they will be so upset they put their pet’s needs first and choose not to be present at all. There is no right or wrong
-
Sedation is provided as standard, but you do have the choice to opt out. Sedation is given by injection into the muscle or skin and provides relaxation and reduces stress for those pets who don’t like to be restrained. It can take up to 30 minutes to take effect. I have a variety of sedatives and will select the best medication once I have assessed your pet
-
When you are ready, the final medication is given to put your pet to sleep and typically takes effect within a few heartbeats. Occasionally a patient may gasp afterwards, but this happens after death has occurred and causes them no suffering whatsoever. Your pet’s eyes are likely to remain open and they may urinate or defecate afterwards.

I work closely with a local independent pet crematorium called Southern Sky.
You can also chose to have your pet’s ashes scattered on your behalf in our orchard and meadow, learn more here
After saying goodbye to your pet there are several options for aftercare. I can respectfully transport your pet directly to Southern Sky on your behalf, or if you prefer you, are welcome to spend more time with your pet at home and take them there yourselves. Southern Sky also offer a home collection service if you would like them to collect your pet from your home at a later arranged time. A chapel of rest is available should you wish to visit.
All arrangements for the return of ashes are made directly between you and Southern Sky. You can find more information about their services at:

-
Absolutely, provided you are able to safely muzzle or adequately restrain. Safety is always the priority and I reserve the right to halt proceedings at any time.
-
You are free to change your mind at any time. If I have already begun travelling, a visit fee may apply.
-
After your appointment is arranged, you will receive and invoice by email with payment details.
Payment is usually made prior to the visit, allowing the appointment itself to remain calm and focused entirely on your pet.
Bank transfer is preferred but there is an option to pay by card. Cash payment on the day is also welcome.
